The company is a successor of the Compañia General de Comercio de los cinco Gremios Mayores de Madrid. In the 18th century Compañia General de Comercio de los cinco Gremios Mayores de Madrid was the biggest trading company of Spain. At first the five guilds jewellery, haberdashery, silk, draperies and wool merchants made their business on their own. In 1679 they merged, but the trading company of the five big gilds was founded only in 1763 in Madrid. Their activities spread from Europe to Asia and America. In 1846 the Compañia General de Comercio de los cinco Gremios Mayores de Madrid was liquidated. The Sociedad Fabril y Comercial de los Gremios was its successor.
