EXTREMELY RARE International Mercantile Marine Company SPECIMEN Stock Certificate dated 1902. Carries the usual SPECIMEN stamps and is in EXCELLENT CONDITION! Small corner loss upper right corner. No rips or tears. Stub remains on left margin. International Mercantile Marine is the parent company for the Titanic and was owned by Industrialist J. This certificate is very rare in that it would be pre-sinking. I have only seen 3 previous in 20 years of collecting!! Specimen stock certificates are certificates that were archived by printers and the company as perfect examples of the company’s stock or bond issue. These certificates are pulled before printing issued stocks Specimen’s can sometimes be identified by their’ specimen’ stamp, stamped holes spelling’ specimen’, or they are often issued with a serial number of a series of zeros. Often, they are also issued with no serial number at all. Specimen certificates can also be unissued, numbered and stamped if other specimens were not available to the company. All of these attributes make the specimen stock certificate much rarer than the large quantity issued version of the share. Many enthusiasts collect specimens as a whole new category of Scripophily. These certificates are SCARCE and in high demand. Very nice Historical document that is 121 years old! Would look FANTASTIC matted and framed!! Thank you for looking.
