This is an old stock certificate from the Central Gold Mining Company, issued to Mrs. Lewis for 70 shares on April 2, 1864 and signed by President R. Stratton and Secretary L. Bangs (these names are as near as I can tell, may actually be a bit different). Certificate states ” Central City, Colorado ” below title, and Hollister’s ” The Mines of Colorado ” does list a Central Gold Mining Company there with property on several lodes, including the Gunnell, Prize and Rhoderick Dhu p. I also have a photocopy of a 16-page prospectus from this company from 1866, which I will include (see second image for cover). This is a rare, early Colorado Territory mining certificate with nice vignettes and a 25-cent revenue stamp. You will receive the exact certificate shown, #180.
