The Heavy Metal Mine (Colorado Lode Claim)
The Heavy Metal Mine is a 20.66 acre gemstone claim in beautiful Larimer County Colorado. The old manhattan mining district can be accessed by driving north on highway 287 to forest road 68C. All season accessible dirt road to claim site. Multiple private camping areas on the claim. This mine was worked in the early 1920s for Gold and silver and then again from the 1950s until 1964 in search of uranium. This richly mineralized area is prime ground for smoky quartz, tourmaline, red beryl, aquamarine and native diamonds. One of the largest industrial diamond mines in Colorado used to operate within twenty miles of this property before closing down in 2008 ownership issues. We have located stunning specimens of aquamarine and smoky quartz during the initial surveys. The main workings consist of two partially collapsed inclined shafts. Shaft depths are recorded at 40 for shaft a and 55 for shaft b. Multiple surface cuts and open pit workings are located in the claim. A historic era wooden head-frame dominates the main dig site. The damaged workings are a testament to the hard work and amazing craftsmanship of the old miners. An abandoned mill site foundation with an old electrical pole rests near the mine. Several collapsed structures rest on the large mine site. The area is home to a variety of wildlife. Native moose, elk, deer and big horn sheep roam the area. A small mountain creek runs below the mine site and into the valley. An amazing property with many relics and treasure yet to be discovered. Large ore reserves have been piled on the property in massive heaps. Crystal specimens and beautiful ore samples can be located in these piles. Large mineralized quartz outcropping are prime area for new crystal deposits. With some work the reclaimed shafts could be reopened for exploration and sampling. A quit claim deed to the property. Coordinates to the monuments and corner posts of the mine. Map of the claim. We are the Rocky Mountain Prospectors. Gold and gemstone miners with a passion for preserving mining history.
